Who we are

Quinn Bros Industries Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. That means we are the ones who decide why and how it is used, and we are responsible for looking after it.

What we collect, and why

When you send an enquiry

Our enquiry forms ask for your name, telephone number and email address, and give you a box for your message. If you are enquiring about a particular machine we also record which one.

We use this only to answer you and to carry on the conversation about that machine. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests. You have asked us a question about buying or selling machinery and you expect a reply.

When you offer us machinery to buy

The sell form asks the same contact details, plus a description of the machinery and, if you choose to attach them, photographs. We use these to value the machinery and come back to you with an offer. Again, the basis is legitimate interests.

When you ask for stock alerts

If you put your email address into the “New Stock Alerts” box, we use it to email you when machines arrive. The basis is your consent. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and tell us to stop. We will not pass your address to anyone else and we will not use it for anything other than stock alerts.

When you simply browse the site

We do not require you to accept anything to read the site. Optional analytics cookies are only set if you actively agree, see our cookie policy. If you agree, we see anonymous, aggregated figures such as which pages are popular and roughly which part of the country visitors are in. We cannot identify you from it.

Reviews shown on this website

Our home page shows a few of the reviews customers have left on our Google Business Profile, along with the reviewer's first name and the initial of their surname.

Those reviews were published by the reviewer themselves, publicly, on Google. We republish them here on the basis of legitimate interests: showing genuine customer feedback, with a real name against it, is how anyone judges whether a supplier is worth ringing. We quote them exactly as written and we never edit, shorten or tidy a review.

If you have left us a review and you would rather it did not appear on this website, email sales@quinnbros.co.uk and we will take it down. No explanation needed and no argument from us. Your review stays on Google unless you remove it there yourself, because that is Google's, not ours.

Who else sees it

We do not sell your information, ever, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. It is seen by:

• Us, the people who answer the phone and the emails.
• Our form and email providers, who pass the message from the website to our inbox and store it while it is in transit.
• Google, if you have accepted optional cookies, for anonymous website statistics and for the map on our contact page.
• Our accountants and, where the law requires it, HMRC, once an enquiry becomes an actual sale or purchase.

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where information leaves the UK it is protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.

Which machines you look at

If you have accepted optional cookies, this website tells us when somebody is looking at one of our machines, so we can be ready if the phone rings. What we are told is the machine, the page, and the town your internet connection is in. Not your address, not your name and not your exact location.

Along with it goes the random number described in our cookie policy. If you have sent us an enquiry before, that number is how we recognise you as the same person, so we can pick up where we left off rather than starting again. Reject optional cookies and no number is created, nothing is stored on your device, and we are never told who you are.

You can clear it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, or by pressing Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and rejecting.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that do not lead anywhere, up to 2 years, because customers often come back to the same machine type much later.
• Enquiries that become a sale or purchase, 6 years after the end of the tax year the transaction falls in, which is how long HMRC requires business records to be kept.
• Stock alert sign-ups, until you unsubscribe.
• Website statistics, up to 14 months, in anonymous form.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• Show you what we hold about you (a “subject access request”).
• Correct anything that is wrong.
• Delete it, where we have no continuing reason to keep it.
• Stop or limit what we are doing with it.
• Hand it over to you or to somebody else in a portable format.
• Object to us relying on legitimate interests.
• Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we relied on. That does not undo anything done before you withdrew it.

If you are not happy

Please tell us first. Most things are a misunderstanding and are sorted out in a phone call. If we cannot put it right, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, who regulate this in the UK.

Keeping it safe

This website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), so anything you type into a form is encrypted on its way to us. Access to enquiries is limited to the people in the business who need to deal with them.

Children

This is a site for buying and selling industrial machinery. It is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
